Testimonials

Nikita - Graduate Teacher

Sarah is a coach who develops your ability to be reflective and consider various ways to improve. She listens well and after sharing with Sarah, you feel heard. She develops your capacity and leads you to solutions without telling you directly what you need to do. She has truly supported me with delegating tasks to free up my time, be assertive with what I want and need and grew my confidence in giving instructions and deadlines in an explicit and clear way. In a short amount of time, Sarah was able to both grow my confidence and provide me with strategies that I could implement in both my personal and professional life. I highly recommend Sarah as a coach. She is a breath of fresh air and is a joy to work alongside with.

Sarah is fantastic at what she does. As a graduate teacher, one feels very lost and overwhelmed, and I was not an exception. I felt like I was at the deeper end of the  pool, all alone, working at such a big school, with so many people, who were way more experienced than me. I then came into contact with Sarah, who made me feel confident, showed me the right way of doing things and assisted me in becoming a knowledgeable teacher. Sarah knows the right tactics and the correct way of showing you how things need to be done, along with the explanations to support her reasonings. She’s a great coach and a mentor, both professionally and personally. She always goes an extra mile to ensure that one is feeling comfortable with their teaching. She has a great expertise in various educational models, and she ensures you understand the purpose and reasonings of what you’re teaching. She’s a great coach to have!

Teaching Clarified

It is said that teaching is both an art and a science. The amalgamation of a black and white process together with a colourful, creative endeavour. It is the facilitation of an experience where the end goal is to assist all learners in attaining, consolidating and applying knowledge or skill set, while at the same time understanding that all learners are unique, diverse and require different levels of assistance to achieve the desired result.

Teaching requires a combination of knowing individual students and how they best learn alongside an understanding of the content and how to teach it. It requires diligent planning and implementation of an experience in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment. It requires ongoing and effectual assessment practices to measure both the effectiveness of the teaching itself and to measure the acquisition of learning. It requires the analysis of data to provide specific, timely and useful feedback and to also make the necessary adjustments and modifications for the future learning program.

Teaching is not a profession for the faint hearted. It is for those who are dedicated and committed to their own continual learning and improvement. It can be an isolating and overwhelming role at times, however through engaging with colleagues and those in the wider community, a practitioner will find that there is their network to support and be supported by.

A successful teacher knows their purpose and stands strong in the face challenge. Those who undertake mentoring and coaching will soon realise grit they possess and experience a satisfaction like none other.
